Over her forty-five-year career as an award-winning educator, poet, activist, and retired teacher of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Millicent E. Hill – also known as “Mama Hill”- has changed the lives of thousands of youngsters through her innovative teaching style.
In an effort to promote education, reduce gang violence, and strengthen families in South Los Angeles, Hill started Mama Hill’s Help out of her home in 2000. Mama Hill’s Help is an afterschool program that assists students between the ages of five and eighteen.
